A Federal Gilt Banjo Clock, Aaron Willard, Boston, c. 1820

DEACCESSIONED

This clock has its original reverse paintings showing a dynamic naval battle, above a banner bearing the names of the four primary American naval heros of the War of 1812: Captain Isaac Hull, Stephen Decatur, William Bainbridge, and Jacob Jones.  The throat glass shows a rare image of a woman with anchor.  The face, movement, and all parts are original and the gilding is in fine condition.

This model is one of the most sought after of the classic Banjo clocks.  The Willards are probably the most famous of the American clock makers of the period and the banjo was of their basic design pattern.
