A Desirable Oak Charles II Dressing Table, England, c.1690-1710

DEACCESSIONED

Oak is the wood of choice during this period, which American collectors often see as William & Mary.  Nevertheless, the skirt of this table, with its beautifully curved arched silhouette design shows the same design motif that would be later popularized in America and associated with “William & Mary” pieces.  Note this American tray top table, previously part of our for sale collection, showing a matching arched apron in the center with similar development down to the drop pendants.

This table is in extremely fine condition, with its original undisturbed top and pins.  The stretcher below is intact, and all original including the small dish on top.   The legs are nicely turned baluster forms, and the ball feet, which are often replaced or missing, are absolutely first.  The drop pendants may or may not be first, and the brasses are period, and probably original to the piece.
