This is a deceiving piece, as it appears somewhat simplistic without carving, but it’s a perfect example of the superior line and form that legendary dealer Albert Sack always remarked as special in his talks regarding American design.  Once one picks this piece up, the heavy weight of the wood is evident.  The turnings on the New York style urn are extremely well executed.  The surface feels almost like marble.  Every element is very well executed, and an example of this is the bracing under the top.  Note the extra braces which most tables do not have and how one is mortised through to the other.  Also, note the block and how it’s beautifully chamfered on all sides and not just a simple cut out square.   Its locking mechanism is oversized and all completely original.   The top is a wonderful piece of solid, figured mahogany.  

This table is in mint condition and of dense Cuban mahogany, possibly made by a shop like Slover & Taylor, a New York cabinet firm known for this quality of wood.
