A Classical Mahogany Tilt-Top Candlestand with Four Legs, Phyfe School, New York, c.1820

DEACCESSIONED

This is a very rare small tilt top table with four legs.  Usually, these have three, and four legs really make a difference in that it feels very solid to the ground.  The wood is beautifully figured, and the craftsmanship top drawer.  Note the reeding just below the acanthus on the legs.  Notice the top, how they are scooped out.  This is rarely seen, and usually on the best pieces of the period, indicative of attention to detail, which is also seen in the casters, which mimic the reeding.   This table is in pristine condition and we have French polished it.   Note the underside.
