An Oak William and Mary Single Drawer Side Table, England, c.1720-40

DEACCESSIONED

This is a magnificent small table in superb condition. Many of these very early table have replacements galore. This table, with the exception of one rear bun foot, is completely original. Almost all of these tables have only replaced bun feet. Often the stretchers are replaced, and these are clearly the first, as are the brasses. The top shows beautiful wear and shrinkage with an old, historic finish.

The shrinkage throughout is absolutely consistent and quite charming. Take a close look at the turnings on the legs. They are beautifully done with scribe marks, etc. Note the well-developed turnings on the legs. Note the old dovetail in the attached, and the museum numbers. This was deaccessioned from historic Williamsburg as necessitated by a major refocus on the representation of later periods.
