A Queen Anne Side Chair, England, c.1740

This is a beautifully sculptural form. Note the side profile, and the curvature of the rear legs. Some of these were made in America, including Newport. This chair is English, due to the beech secondary wood. Note the backsplat with beautifully figured mahogany veneer over solid mahogany with edged inlay as a finish. This is generally not the case. They are usually plain. This is a fine example and is one of the best of its kind. The surface is old, however, waxed through the years, giving a deserved important look.
