This is a rare form in a
decorated lacquer surface, and a delicate table that is certainly a
survivor. The original top retains its first decorative Chinoiserie
embellishments, as do the drawers, sides, and back.
Looking at the images below,
one sees a voluptuously shaped skirt with strong hoofed Queen Anne
cabriole legs. It’s enjoyable to see the gentle warpage which has
occurred over time to its original top. The cut-out in the front apron
is quintessentially Queen Anne and very smartly stylized. The drawer
layout is typical of this form.
Black lacquered furniture with
Chinese motifs is well illustrated in the literature (see below). A

The brasses are period
replacements, however, no new holes were drilled, and all parts are
original. (See construction images.) These pieces are very decorative
alongside an upholstered chair or against a wall, accommodating lamps
nicely.
