John Rupp (b.1801), a cabinet maker and
decorator from Hanover, Pennsylvania is best known for the decorative painted
surfaces that grace his pieces. The imaginative decorative original painted
surface that graces this pine table is a hallmark example of his work. It is
indicative of his expertise as a craftsman and a Folk Artist as well as a
fturniture maker. The case and drawer are dovetailed. The unusually graceful
form of this Empire table is a wonderful “canvas” for the rusty red over yellow
paint.
