A Mahogany Classical Card Table on “Cannon Ball” Base, Boston/Salem, c.1820

DEACCESSIONED

From a design point, this is an exceptional card table with rarely seen columnar base. The design statement is striking with a “cannon ball” shaped base below a tapered column that terminates in a series of rings. The saber legs are typical Boston/Salem form, all of which support a top with solid mahogany leaves which are beautifully edged and the apron, a very deep, convex shape.

We’ve had only one other table
of this type over the past 25 years, and have seen
only two more in addition to that. This one is the
finest, and the only one we’ve seen with inlaid brass
on the apron. The condition throughout is immaculate.
