A Pristine Chippendale Mahogany Dumbwaiter with Dishtop Shelves, Attleboro, MA, c.1780
Whereas most dishtops have three shelves, this has a less cumbersome and useful two shelf design. Note the traditional baluster main support, and also the beautiful turnings just below each shelf. It’s the obvious work of a skilled craftsman. The feet are shaped in a characteristic Massachusetts fashion exhibiting characteristic chamfering at the midpoint of each leg and follows down through to the sculptured pad foot.
This is a very charming piece that came out of a colonial homestead in Attleboro, MA, and more than that, the surface is first, and has been waxed through the years (see detailed close ups). There are no repairs or alterations whatsoever. Absolute museum quality!
