A Mahogany Classical Pier/Card Table, with Segmented Top, Philadelphia, Haines/Connelly, c.1810

We refer to Haines Connelly school on the basis of the carving, for which his work is often idenfied. The interesting thing about this table, and the related example shown below, is the height. Whereas card tables normally have a 29 / 30 inch height, this table is 31 ½ in. high and visually appears to be a tall card table, bordering on its use as a pier table, and is a form rarely seen. The drop pendants are original, and relate to a Philadelphia work table in our collection. (See sw00784).
