A Pair of Carved Classical Card Tables with a Radiating Mahogany Top, Philadelphia, c.1830

DEACCESSIONED

This pair of card tables has magnificent sectioned mahogany tops that are absolutely dramatic. Beyond highly figured mahogany, the carving is quite exceptional and complementary to the austere nature of classical furniture. Note the carving on the apron, which is flanked by matching mahogany veneers on either side. The restrained classical columns sit on a base of carved ring turnings, all of which are supported on a slim contored base with short Philadelphia type carved paw feet. The carved elements were originally ebonized and we have cleaned and French polished these elements.

Pairs of card table are hard to find, and these are truly exceptional.
