A Carved Mahogany Classical Worktable with Sewing Basket, Salem, c.1830

This sewing basket, supported
with nicely tapered spiral legs, has just above it,
acanthus leaves, signifying its Salem provenance.
It is a three drawer sewing table with original wooden
pulls. We have reupholstered the bag with an appropriate
fabric that contrasts beautifully with the vibrantly
figured mahogany. The top is of the solid, and is
a beautifully figured slab of wood (see
detailed image). This worktable is all in original condition,
with original casters, and is a fine example of the
form.
