An Aesthetic Marble Games Table with Pietra Dura Specimens, American, c.1880

This table, which almost
has a nautical look to it, is fitted with a magnificent
marble top. Note, around the playing board, there
are all different types of marble that are carefully
fitted with one another (see below). Because of this,
this form is often referred to as a specimen table.
The playing board is executed with uniform squares.
These tables were always very costly because of the
carefully worked marble elements, and still fewer
have survived intact. Our table is in absolutely perfect
condition, with all original marble, wood, etc.

Although this table
has a very light and airy look, it is indeed quite
heavy, as all the marble rests and is cemented into
a solid base.
