A Chinese Chippendale Slant-front Desk

Constructed of padouck
and Oriental hardwoods. The top, lid and side panels
applied with gadrooned moldings, the case with four
short drawers on each side, centering four longer
slightly bowed drawers; the lid opening to reveal
a compartmented interior, curved at the sides, with
six cubbyholes with carved valances, below which are
two curving side drawers, two short drawers and a
long central drawer, the prospect door revealing a
cubby, on either side a tall letter drawer, the fronts
of each carved with bamboo-form design surmounted
by foliate carving. Raised on an ornately carved apron
with foliage, tendrils, and leafage, on four curving
square feet with bellflower and foliate decoration.
Brass hardware later replacements.
