A Federal Inlaid Mahogany Demi-lune Commode/Server probably Southern, 1810

DEACCESSIONED

This small-scale demi-lune server is highly desirable, because very few of the demi-lunes form were produced in America. The mahogany is vividly striped and inlaid with satinwood banding around the drawers along with herringbone inlay and satinwood corner moldings. The legs have bellflower inlays that are characteristic of a Southern origin, as is the design of the string inlay above the bell flower inlays (see detail).
While this casepiece can be used as a
small server/sideboard, it can also be used as a commode
in living room. It has been carefully polished and
restored, and is in fine condition.
