A Carved Black Cherry Dishtop Classical Tilt-top Table, New England, possibly Salem, c.1820

This small tilt-top table is composed of a beautiful dark cherry. It has a fine, and highly desirable dishtop edge. The column is superbly carved with acanthus leafage and undercut, carved leaves and carved ring turning above. The scrolled feet have an interesting carved design with punchwork throughout (see detail). This is a finely constructed table, certainly designed as a table of great beauty and treasured through the years as it is in perfect condition with no repairs or restorations, whatsoever. While we consider this a New England table, the column and leafage is very reminiscent of Salem work.
