A Fine Pair of Mahogany and Marble Classical Pier Tables, New York, c.1830

DEACCESSIONED

Classical pier tables with fine white columns are highly valued, but, to find a pair of the grand scale is exceptional.  These pier tables employ the best of bookend matched figured mahogany.  The form is relatively restrained, but the carved lotus foot shows it is pretty classy, indeed. The columns and pilasters have gilt work on their capitals and base trim, as does the turned ring above the carved front feet.  Also of note is the convex apron integrated with the base, of grand curvature.

Often, a great pair of formal ceramics or other art objects are placed in front of the mirror, offering a nearly complete front and back view of the displayed piece.
