A Classical Mahogany Sofa Table Boston, c.1810

DEACCESSIONED

Sofa tables are very rare and were more popular in England than in America. Therefore, American ones are fairly pricey when available. They are highly functional, as they fit nicely behind a sofa, and with the leaves up, provide for a very nice writing table. This table, which is in superb condition, retains its original rosettes on the lyre, and original drawer pulls. Also of note, are the interesting drop finials flanking and under the central drawer. The quality of the mahogany is absolutely outstanding. The top is a solid board of strikingly figured mahogany, as are the two leaves. Note the beautifully figured lyre. The surface is dry and the entire piece exhibits the condition of being highly prized and cared for through the years.
