IN NEW ORLEANS – A Fine Carved Mahogany Chippendale style Armchair, with Open Talon Feet, late 19th Century

This is one of the finest armchairs of its type.  Exuberantly crafted in every way.  Note the open talon claw and ball feet and the carved knees.  The backsplat is also fully developed along English modeling.  This chair is quite heavy, given the dense high quality mahogany used throughout.  This chair shows that great furniture was made later in the 19th / 20th century, and this is a prime example.  No doubt, it was a custom piece and one would have to start turning the chair upside down to determine exactly how old it is because it is truly a wonderfully crafted piece using all the techniques of the period.
