LEONARDS *** A Carved Mahogany Double Pedestal Dining Room Table w/ Three Leaves

DEACCESSIONED

The pedestal dining room table is the most desirable and popular form, because of its efficiency.  Straight legs on dining tables always create a limitation on where chairs can go and the pedestal form has a very light and airy look.  This dining room table follows closely the Duncan Phyfe form with four saber legs on each pedestal, embellished with acanthus leaves supporting a carved urn.   This is the traditional Classical style and most sought after by collectors as it is inspired by the early New York Phyfe school of cabinetmaking.  The feet are brass paw feet which also are in keeping with the style.  The top is solid mahogany and has three leaves.  This table is in superb condition and probably was made in the 30’s or 40’s.

This table can be extended using three 12 in. wide extra leaves.
