A Fine and Rare Mahogany Neoclassical Sewing Stand with Wooden Tassels, probably Boston, c.1830

The basic tapered chest is composed of matched crotch grain mahogany, which has turned a
mellow color with beautiful overtones.
The interior is composed of a lift-out needle-button compartment and its
original mirror under the top lid. The
wooden tassels are quite exceptional. The central column has an
urn form all supported on a plinth with hairy paw feet below scrolled
embellishment. While this is a very small piece, the degree
of complexity throughout is extraordinary and is in museum condition.
