A Mahogany Chippendale Tripod Table, Dishtop with Bridcage & Urn, Salem or Newport, c.1760

DEACCESSIONED

This small table retains its original, now dark, oxidized surface.  It has a desirable dishtop with a single, beautifully grained, board of mahogany, now darkened as a result of its untouched surface.  While it would be easy to clean the top down and reveal the extent of the wood quality, we prefer to keep this table in its original untouched state.  The feet have a classic Newport pad foot whose end is quite round or bulbous and is fairly well standard on many documented Newport tables. The birdcage, however, is not typically Newport, although Ralph Hunter in Arts & Crafts of Newport does show a documented Newport table with birdcage.  The shaft is slender and the urn, very delicately turned.
