A Walnut Chippendale Server with Carved Shells, Philadelphia, c.1780

DEACCESSIONED

This is a magnificent large walnut base to a highboy that has had a walnut top fitted that has aged beauiftully with the rest of the piece, and functions as an elegant server.  This base is completely original and retains its deep mellow color. As it is very wide, it converts to a useful server or small sideboard without alterations to the piece, with the exception of a top board addition. The shell is large and beautifully carved.  The base is nicely scalloped and the nicely sprung cabriole legs  have finely carved knee shells, which are also carved on the
rear legs.
All are supported with strongly carved claw and ball feet.

This server makes a strong Chippendale
statement and is a wonderful reuse of the lower section of what was once a
monumental highboy.
