Gothic Mahogany Center Table with Cluster Columns, Boston, c.1840

DEACCESSIONED

This classic hexagonal center table uses the six-sided
form to its advantage with coordinated matching figured mahogany achieving a dramatic
effect (see below). Sometimes, these tables have marble tops, which lean toward a later
Victorian concept that does not profit by the hexagonal form (see related example below). Also note the hexagonal form repeated
at its base. The cluster columns are seen in other examples, (view related scans) some more successful than others, i.e.
with scroll feet, or no feet, not to speak of uninteresting tops. This table has an
intricately shaped apron and all its
original drop pendants.
