Sheraton Mahogany Regency Armchair, England, c.1815

DEACCESSIONED

This armchair, composed of heavy figured mahogany, immediately distinguishes itself with strongly developed scrolled arms which are reinforced stylistically with its immediate support structures, which successfully complete the line and form of the chair. The upper crest panel is a finely molded solid piece of figured mahogany in keeping with the rest of its elements. The restrained support below is embellished with scrolled elements.  The turned Sheraton feet have a stylized half-round cluster generally seen in the English Regency form, above a bulbous embellishment which is ultimately turned in typical Sheraton fashion.
