A Classical Mahogany and Marble Top Lyre Side Table, c.1840

This is a vibrant side table composed of highly figured crotch grain mahogany.   Note its artful use within the center of the lyre base, and also around the apron of the top and beautiful sections on the base, or plinth.

It is architecturally pleasing and balances in a complimentary fashion with the top. The base is finished with elegant scrolled feet, which retain their original brass casters.

The lyre form is an important design motif of the early to mid 19th century, and is highly coveted by the collector. Marble tops additionally are extremely desirable and practical.  The marble top on this table is the original.
