Renaissance Revival Walnut, Burl Walnut, and Marquetry Dressing Table labeled George Hess, patented 1876, New York

It is rare enough to find pieces such as this with their original label in place and rarer still to find them also with a first surface.  This worktable/sewing cabinet is a tour de force with a mirror under a marquetry lid with pull-out writing surface, all of burl walnut and solid maple.  Under the desk is a pull drawer and below that a pull-out circular sewing storage area.

This casepiece, in addition to retaining its original surface and label, also has the name branded under one of the drawers. This is a museum quality piece, and we show it because of the degree of the development in its execution.
