Fine English Mahogany Marble-Top Commode, Late 19th Century

This tour de force has a shaped rouge marble top with a brass reticulated 3-quarter gallery and cup corners; a narrow drawer with a foliate scroll-work frieze and recessed panel with bead molding above two deep drawers with shaped recessed panels, beading, and ornate hardware.  The sides are similarly decorated with recessed panels and bead molding, and are flanked by round, fluted columns, headed by neoclassical style swags all above Tupie legs with brass foliate casters.

This monumental commode, with its striking striped sycamore and giltwork, is a masterpiece. It retains its original finish; there are no alterations or restorations.
