This classical form with four turned columns is typical of the later classical period.  An example of such is illustrated in Furniture of the Olden Time (see scanned image below).   This table has a top of all single solid boards with clover leafed drop leaves and is composed of beautifully figured dense Santo Domingo  mahogany.   What sets many of these better New York pieces apart is the use of brass inlay, and here, it is used flanking the drawers with a figured mahogany inset.

The columns are beautifully turned and the plinth with convex shaping stylizes an otherwise square base into a pleasing use of space, supported by four robustly carved paw legs.
