A Fine Inlaid Mahogany and Giltwood Federal Mirror with Urn Finial, New York, c.1790

This is the finest of these Hepplewhite mirrors we have handled.  Sizewise, it is quite large and retains its original mirror and surface.  The inlays are rarely seen on the bottom of the mirror as well as the top.  The finial is extremely well executed with individual acanthus leaves below a splay of ornamental flowers.   This swan’s neck pediment, as well, is quite arched and makes a statement.  The dealer who handled this, Prickett, handled only the very best, and this indeed is emblematic of what one would expect him to show at what used to be called the Winter Antique Show in New York.
