A Large Federal / Classical Giltwood Eglomise Mirror, Probably Boston, c.1810-1820

DEACCESSIONED

The most sought after of these American federal mirrors are those with original eglomise (reverse painted) mirrors.   This one has its original glass, (top and bottom), and is of very large size.  The painting is in fine condition and the giltwood freshened up as needed.  There are no repairs or alterations whatsoever.   The column detail is very well developed and of a fine, earlier aesthetic, delicate in treatment, especially as worked on the opposing sides of the reverse painting.

This is a good sized mirror that makes an important statement, and is rare to find. It’s the type of mirror one would see in the diplomatic reception rooms.
