A Mahogany Chippendale Upholstered Wing Chair with Carved Knees and Claw and Ball Feet, Boston, c.1760

DEACCESSIONED

This is the best, most highly developed form of the colonial wing chair produced in Boston.   A mate to it is at Winterthur (see scanned image below).  This chair makes a bold statement with its highly desirable form, including shaped wings, and scrolled arms.  They are neither heavy nor cumbersome; they flow from the crest of the back, through the sides on down.  Above the legs, the corner or platform of the seat is not square, but rounded: a and highly desired feature.  This chair is the best of the best, and came out of a pioneer dealer’s estate sale (Jerry Blum, purchased from John Walton)…he knew what to live with!

Height: 48 1/4 in.  Width: 34 1/2 in.  Depth: 29 1/2 in.
