New York Harbor, James Hamilton, Regatta Scene, (American 1819-1878)

A detailed, large scale view of New York harbor looking north encompassing Castle Garden and the Battery in the distance, with the Hudson River and the Palisades to west, with visible spires of Brooklyn to the east.

66 in. x 40 in.

Provenance: Colonel Robert Coleman Hall Brock (1861-1901) of Pennsylvania.    This painting descended through inheritance to the Brock family (the Colonel was a nephew of renowned Philadelphia art collector Henry S. Gibson) since it was painted.  The consignor believes Gibson bought the painting directly from the artist, James Hamilton (1819-1878).
