This fine clock is in mint condition, retaining its original enameled roman-numeraled dial. This is also a striking clock, with “Blanc” & “Aubenas” painted on the dial. (Aubenas is a town in the Rhône-Alpes region of the South of France.)
So-called “Baker’s clocks” are a well known and highly collectible school of clock that were popular among French merchants who wanted something special and elegant to add a touch of class to their shops. The name came from the preponderance of this type of clock that was found in French Bakeries. This particular clock is an unusual example having inlaid Mother-of-Pearl against a black background on the dial surround. The brightly enameled cartouches behind each numeral and on each hour mark on the bezel make this clock’s face unusually vibrant among the common offerings in this school.
