A Mid-sized Mahogany Tilt-top Table with Dishtop and Birdcage, Salem, c.1780

DEACCESSIONED

This table is of desired size, as it’s not too big or too small, so that it could fit in a number of places comfortably.   The dish top a most desired feature in the tilt-top form, as is the birdcage.  The turned urn is finely executed and the cabriole feet end in a stubby club foot, which is molded quite well.  Of note is the wood, which is dense, dark, and of heavy weight.   The top reveals an old history polished over a nicely figured one-board top.

In the images below, please see a scan from Abert Sack’s Good, Better, Best.   The sharp turnings, fine proportions and perfectly developed feet put our table in the “best” category in this group.
