A Fine Rosewood Classical Piano Stool or Dressing Table Seat with Carved Lyre Splat and Brass Inlaid Carved Crest Rail, England, c. 1820

DEACCESSIONED

This is an exceptional music stool is in perfect condition throughout.  The lyre is exceptionally well developed and the brass inlay is extraordinary.   Compare this with a related American model, made in New York (see image below).  One can easily see the difference between good and extraordinary.  The seat is nicely tufted and hasn’t had much use, if any.   The mahogany has an old waxed surface.  It’s the best in its class.  Chairs such as this are also used in powder rooms or in front of dressing tables because of their compactness and versatility.
