A Fine Classical Carved Mahogany Triple Elliptic Drop-Leaf Table, by Duncan Phyfe or Circle, New York City, c.1810

This example is similar the astragal-ended worktable (sw01169, shown here). It has full acanthus carved legs supporting a large reeded urn. The choice of dense mahogany and quality of craftsmanship is the finest of the period. Many makers in New York copied this form, and the quality of this one speaks for itself.
