A Federal/Hepplewhite Mahogany Card Table w/ Urn Inlays, Stephan & Thomas Goddard School, Newport, RI, c.1800

This card table came to us out of a local house sale through the hands of a Rhode Island picker.  It is in fine condition with no breaks or alterations.   It is attributed to Stephan and Thomas Goddard, however similar pieces come out of the workshop of Thomas Howard, also in Rhode Island.

Note the distinctive inlay on the top edges, the bottom of the apron, and around the central panel.  Of note is the relatively provincial urn which is typical of other examples particularly showing the lines inside the urn.  The top is solid mahogany with no hinge breakouts, etc.

This table has, over the years, developed a deep amber patina, with a warm attractive countenance.
