A Fine Miniature Ormolu-mounted Burled Mantel Clock with Pagoda top and Rooster Finial , France, c.1890

DEACCESSIONED

This small clock, composed of burl walnut is further embellished with fine wood inlay and gilt mounts. The shaping of this clock is French and every surface seems to curve and is integrated in the form of a larger tall case clock. Many of these small clocks fall short when it comes to the dial. Here, it is porcelain with Roman numbers in perfect condition.

The movement is inscribed “Bevete, Paris” and a related clock by this maker is illustrated in the attached. Note that the attached example only keeps time. Our example also strikes on the hour with its own wind-up mechanism. The movement is similar to watch construction of very high quality.
