This classic drop-leaf table is most serviceable, having only a main central column, which creates seating flexibility. A central column is the most convenient support for a breakfast table to have; no legs to get in the way. This example is a museum quality piece. The top and leaves are one board, solid, (unjoined), mahogany. The column above a ring turned serpentine plinth with compressed ball feet are classic features of the late Empire period, which, at this point, is often called Gothic.
