Diminutive Pembroke tables are not an often-found form, as they are usually mistaken as large, one-drawer stands. We have had one other in our collection: a country cherry example which has been sold, see item sw00233.
This formal Pembroke table is composed of beautifully figured solid mahogany, see top below. The edges of the top are finely reeded; flanking the drawer is a decorative horizontal convex reeding element that contrasts nicely with the finely tapered reeded legs. Note the reeded legs at the top are crisply finished with a slight oval shape that terminates each reed; this is a Boston trademark and demonstrates the high level of craftsmanship of which this shop was capable. Also, note the beautifully sculpted leaf supports and the shaped frame that they are fitted in when closed. Again, this is a sign of the best craftsmanship.
The table is in a fine state of preservation, with a mellow, red-brown color. There are no alterations or replacements, see details.
