A Classical Federal Sheraton Mahogany Sofa, New York, c. 1810

DEACCESSIONED

This federal sofa with its boldly turned feet and arm support were popular as living room/formal furniture of quality. Usually, these don’t have crest rails but are fully upholstered in the back. The reeded crest rail is a Classical motif complementing the reeded seat rail. It is well designed and a fairly bold and strong sofa. The scrolled arms are beautifully defined, resting on its columnar support.

The upholstery, while not new, isn’t very old and in superb condition.  It is upholstered with a Chinese pattern and well-packed down cushion.
