A Diminutive 5-legged Queen Anne Mahogany Card Table, Irish, c.1760

This is a dense and heavy little table, considering its very small size. It is particularly interesting because of the use of 5 legs, which is not used very often due to extra cost, but makes a table more stable than not. The legs are beautifully shaped in traditional Queen Anne style, with the small pointed slipper foot which is seen on many Newport pieces of furniture, and originated in Ireland. The top is composed of single solid board mahogany leaves.

Of note is the very understated treatment of the apron, which falls behind the top of each leg, providing visual depth in a subtle way. It is in fine, all original condition.
