A Carved Classical Mahogany Card Table with Dolphins and Brass Inlay, probably New York, c.1830

DEACCESSIONED

This is a superb classical table with a strong, deeply carved column
supported by dolphins that span the width of the table graciously. These
elements retain their original surface. The figured mahogany tabletop
and apron were cleaned, revealing the beautiful figure throughout, and
the contrasting edge banding on the top. The brass stringing at the base
indicates a New York origin, as that decorative element was popular in
New York, in contrast to other cities, where it is almost never found.
(The exception to this rule is the usage of brass stringing on some
Seymour pieces, which this clearly is not; this is not a style he worked
with.)

We also have an exceptional drop leaf table with dolphin feet in our collection. Please click here for an image of this piece.
