Mahogany Sheraton Armchair, England, c.1810

DEACCESSIONED

This unusual armchair has a crest rail with reeded figure eight bow that is seemingly fluid in its form. The backsplat is restrained, not taking away from the stylized crest and is similarly reeded. The arms are integrated into the rear styles with continuous reeding, and the arm supports are tapered and turned, finalizing in the finished corners at the seat frame, which it seemingly
pierces to be continued by a related turned leg, which also
is tapered and for a balanced design, reeded.

This chair is unusual and makes a successful
design statement. While it is quite light in aspect, it
is composed of dense, heavy mahogany which has withstood
the test of time as there are no breaks or repairs.
