A Tiger Maple Chest, Rhode Island, c.1770

DEACCESSIONED

This tiger maple chest has magnificent tiger on the drawer fronts. It doesn’t come any better. The feet are quintessentially Newport. They have the famous ogee form on a slight platform. The piece is in a perfect state of preservation. The brasses are appropriate replacements. While many of these bureaus have simple bracket feet which make it hard to determine much about origin, this chest has feet that are not often seen and clearly point to the Newport/Rhode Island location of manufacture.
