A Rosewood Stenciled Pier Table with Marble Columns, New York, c.1830

This pier table is in its original first surface and untouched condition. The beautiful marble columns are finished with gilt capitals and the aprons additionally have a fine brass etching as does the base (see details) The stenciling is all there and the rosewood has a beautiful amber color, which only time gives. All is supported on four paw feet with acanthus. Generally, there are only two paw feet, and the back-for economy-is a turned or columnar element. This was a special pier table, and while restrained in aspect, has all the embellishments of the pier table form.
